Overwhelmed by Stress?

I am a massage therapist and Yoga teacher.

Many of my friends and clients assume that because of my line of work and my interests that I don’t really suffer from stress.

That couldn’t be more wrong.

I am a busy body.

I struggle with sitting still, patience, saying no, and balance. When I say “balance” I mean all things balance. Sleep/work, Food/sweets, Money/time. I really have to work on these things consistently and patiently. Patience, also a struggle. Realizing I am a busy body has led me on my journey to a balanced body.

This Too Shall Pass

Do you ever wish you were somewhere else? Someone else?

Like you have lost who you are and you have no idea why things aren't the way they should be, and the only way to find that is to completely change everything about your life?

Well, we all do and no matter how hard you try, you are still you.

What if I told you there is ONLY ONE THING you had to do to change your life?

I have been in the healing industry for a decade at least and there are hundreds of thousands of things you can do, classes you can take, treatments you can have, etc. to supplement your journey to "HAPPY AND HEALTHY".

But there is only one thing that matters.

Disclaimer: Yes, I would still suggest Yoga, Massage, and Meditation on your journey to changing this one thing but just keep reading.

How Consistency Affects Jiu Jitsu Practitioners

Jiu jitsu creates a vehicle for success through personal ownership and a growth mindset. To achieve skill in jiu jitsu, one must stop making the same mistakes and instead grow to create new answers for problems that had once been impossible. This concept of self-reflection, followed by redirection and the will to do better, will carry over easily from inside to outside the dojo.

Daily Vacations

“Work work work work work work…” We all know those people that willingly admit that Rihanna’s hit “Work” is … “like totally their theme song”.

  1.  I am that person, and that is a direct quote from me.
  2. If you haven’t listened to that song you should. It is most likely offensive to some of you, and just awful to others, but then it can be stuck in both of our heads.

Either way, lyrically, "Work" is "about working for a paycheck no matter what else is going on in your life. Additionally, it focuses on "a fragile relationship" which seems to be a common factor when our work life and our personal life are out of balance.

Whether hip hop is your scene or not, I think most of us can relate to the fact of work being unenjoyable.

Even if you are lucky enough to own your own business, be self-employed, or have your dream job, work can still consume you.  It can consume the majority of your time and thoughts.

Pregnancy Myths + Free eBook!

Pregnancy myths are fun to write about, but this next one makes me seriously a little afraid of hate mail. Hate the conventional wisdom not the person guiding you past it! This is me smiling nervously…I’m just teasing, kind of, but today’s topic is something that every American (I wonder if this is a global phenomenon?) woman ever has heard a MILLION times and that is…

“Girl you’re doing your Kegels though right?”

So there are a few things to clear up here, first being that (just as is the case with anything else) you never want to depend solely on one thing to solve a problem. Usually problems are way more complicated than a quick fix. Plus this particular problem took years to make, so a quick fix just won’t cut it, and never could.

Back-To-School Shoes + Promo Code

School is back in session, and we know how much fun it is to take children back to school clothes and shoe shopping! Most schools have switched to a uniform dress code (which is lame) but kids can wear whatever shoes they want. We wanted to let you in on a couple of shoe buying tips that will help keep your children healthy and stylish! We know choosing shoes for our kiddos can be stressful enough without adding new guidelines, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible:

Bullying can happen to anyone.

Did you know October is National Bully Prevention Month? I didn’t even know that was a thing until my child’s PRESCHOOL sent us an announcement about it. Really…preschool. Kids are already being bullied in baby school. Once we found out about this, my husband Thomas Williams – our Jiu Jitsu instructor – asked if he could talk to the school about bullies, bully prevention, and even stranger danger awareness. As we have been doing this we have noticed a few things that parents should keep in mind.

The number one excuse I hear when people tell me why they don’t eat well is “I don’t have time to eat healthy.” I think the Dali Lama said it best when he was asked what surprises him most about humanity. He replied “Man sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” Here are four tips I have been using that have helped me through a sugar detox. If I can do it with my limited diet, ANYONE can do it!

      • 1 Routine. When treats become a routine it is a tough cycle to break. Take a look at your routine (whether it is a conscious routine or not) and make changes where you see fit. You don’t need any crazy plan to make small routine changes. Try this mantra- say it to yourself over and over “make good choices” instead of our typical mantra “F it.” Buying seeds, nuts, and fruit for the week instead of rushing to QuickTrip or Starbucks for snacks can make all the difference. You will have good routine habits in no time.

YogaKaty feet in UnshoesLook down at your shoes and let me know how they stack up to the shoe test:

  • Do they have a heel?
  • Just a quarter inch or more than that?
  • Do your toes feel squished or do they have room to wiggle?
  • Do they attach to the back of your foot?
  • Do they attach at the top?

This month at Balanced Bodies we are focusing on families, and I definitely want to plant the seed here that when evaluating the health of your family, footwear is crucial. As Balanced Bodies’ Certified Foot Practitioner, I might have some bad news about the shoes that are on your feet or your kids’ feet at this moment. But keep reading to realize it’s really not so bad. You’ll be glad you did.

Currently I am wearing my Unshoes, which I love dearly.  For me, they fit all the requirements that a shoe should meet.  They have a strap that goes over my foot so they are definitely attached, they have no heel and I’m wiggling my toes as we speak (I mean type?). They have many different types to choose from for everyone in the family. The ones shown here are the Wokova Feather, and you can find them at the Unshoe web site.
